Who will take care of my handyman job?

Professional handymen are the best option if you're looking for someone local who can do a job such as replacing a light bulb or fixing a leaky faucet. Handyman services might be an option for you if you have several jobs to complete, such a roof repair or new floor tile installation.

Should I pay a handyman by the hour or per-project basis?

It all comes down to personal preference. Some prefer to pay per hour so they can see the actual cost of their handyman. Some prefer to pay each project individually, especially if they are working on multiple jobs simultaneously. Either way, it's fine.

How To

How to Replace a Broken Window?

Repairing broken windows is one the most common home improvement jobs. The task consists of repairing damage caused to the glass inside your house. Repair work in this instance should take no more than 30 minutes. If you don't know how to replace broken glass, you could cause more damage to your home. This article contains some tips to help you replace a damaged window.

First step: Remove the old glass from its frame

First, remove all screws that hold the glass in place. Next, undo the lock in the middle of the bottom section. Next, raise the window so it isn't attached to the sillplate (the metal strip below the floor). Finally, use a pry tool to carefully loosen the remaining screws until they pop out of their holes. After the panes have been removed from the window, clean them well.

Second step: Clean the new glass

Use a dry cloth or paper towel to wipe away any dirt from the surface of the glass. Use a spray bottle with water and alcohol to clean any debris that has gotten under the glass.

Third Step: Reinstall new glass

Reattach the window panes into the frames. Begin by pressing down on the outermost pane's lower edge with a screwdriver. Gently push your pane back into its opening. After moving to the next one, push it firmly against your previous one before you reattach it. Continue to insert the panes until you have assembled the whole window. To seal the area where the panes meet, use a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth step: Repair the damaged area

Inspect the area around the hole when installing new glass to see if any repairs are required. Install two pieces of small wood on each side of any hole if the break was near the corner. These wooden blocks will strengthen the window while acting as spacers for the glass during expansion and contraction of the weatherproofing.

Fifth step: Seal the repaired area

After the glass has had to be replaced, apply silicone caulking at the perimeter edges. This will create a good seal between the glass and the surrounding wallboard. You can purchase silicone caulking at hardware stores or online. Make sure you choose a color that is consistent with the wall's existing paint.

Allow the caulking to cure overnight. You should not disturb the caulking after it has fully hardened. You can cause cracking in the caulking if it isn't left enough time.
