FAQ
Is it necessary to train a handyman for my work?
No. Handymen already have the skills and knowledge to complete any job. All they have to do is provide the materials necessary to complete the job.
When is it the best time for a handyman to be hired?
There is no right time to hire a handyman. You just need to get started as soon possible. Of course, you can wait until after the holidays to save some money. However, you can also call various handymen by picking up the phone.
What are the most popular handyman repairs?
Handymen are often called upon to repair roofs and windows, doors, gutters or siding. They also can install hot water heaters, air conditioning units, electrical systems, sheds, decks, fences, sheds and other items. Handymen can help with any home improvement or building project that is not possible for DIY homeowners.
Handyman services are more expensive than general contractors.
Yes! Yes! This is especially true for those who have never had a contractor do a job. A handyman is able to speed up the process of completing a job because they are more skilled in certain tasks.
Are you able to work as a handyman without a license?
To become an independent contractor in most states, you don't need to have a license (as opposed with a salaried worker). However, certain requirements must be met:
-
Be at least 18 years old.
-
Get a diploma from high school or GED.
-
You will need to complete a four week course at a vocational college.
-
A background check is required by the Department of Licensing.
-
Register annually by paying $20
You will also require business licenses as well workers' compensation coverage.
Is it worthwhile to spend more money on professional handyman services?
This will depend on the type and scope of your project. For complex projects, such as an office renovation or construction project, a professional handyman would be a great option.
A handyman can install new fixtures and appliances.
These projects are best left to the professionals. Before you start installing any appliance or fixture, make sure you have the right information.

How To
How to replace a broken window
Repairing broken windows is one the most common home improvement jobs. Repairing damage to glass within your home is the task. In this case, the repair work should only take around 30 minutes. If you don't know how to replace broken glass, you could cause more damage to your home. This article provides some tips on replacing a broken window.
First step: Take the glass out of its frame
First, take out all the screws that are holding the glass in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, lift the window upwards so it isn’t attached to sill plates (the metal bars below the floor). The last step is to gently loosen all remaining screws with a tool. After the panes are taken off, thoroughly clean them.
Step 2: Clean the new glasses
To remove dirt and grime from the glass' surface, use a paper towel or dry cloth. You can clean the glass with a spray bottle containing water and rubbing alcohol if there is any debris underneath.
Step 3: Install the new glass
Reattach the window panes into the frames. Begin by gently pressing down on one end of the outermost panel with the tip a screwdriver. Gently push the pane into the opening of the frame. After moving to the next one, push it firmly against your previous one before you reattach it. Continue inserting the panes till the window is complete. You can seal the spaces where the panes meet using a silicone caulk pistol.
Fourth step: Repair the damage
If you are installing new glass, be sure to inspect the area where the break occurred. This will help determine if further repairs are necessary. In the event that the hole is located near the corner of your window, place two small pieces on either side of it. These wooden blocks will provide strength for the window, as well as acting as spacers during the expansion or contraction of the weatherproofing.
Fifth step: Seal the repaired area
Apply silicone caulking around the edges of the frame after the glass has been replaced. This will create a seal between the glass frame and the wallboard. Silicone caulking can be purchased at hardware stores and online. You should choose a color to match the wall paint.
Allow the caulking time to dry overnight. The caulking should be left to harden completely before you disturb it. You may crack the caulking by not waiting long enough.
