Creating detailed cost estimates

Detroit's general contractor will often be asked for a cost estimate. This is because it can sometimes be hard to predict the exact cost of the job. A project's construction is broken down into different parts like a floor pane or a heat exchanging unit. These information is usually found in a bidding package. Next, determine the type and quantity of labor and materials required for each section. This process is called takeoff. It starts with the information included in the bidding package. After this information is collected by the contractor, the contractor can create a cost estimate and a proposal for the project.

Licensing

Michigan law mandates general contractor licensing. General contractors must have Residential Builders, Maintenance and Alterations Contractors, or Building Codes licenses in order to operate in the state. Plumbers and commercial contractors are licensed at the local level in Michigan. General contractors are also licensed in Detroit for remodeling and building projects.

These liens are a form of a mechanic's lien and can complicate a future property sale and force a sale. The trend toward expanding lien rights beyond the original contract is far from new, however. How do I replace a damaged window?

Repairing broken windows is one the most common home improvement jobs. The task consists of repairing damage caused to the glass inside your house. This repair will take only 30 minutes. However, if you are not familiar with how to replace broken panes of glass, you may cause further damage to the home. This article provides some tips on replacing a broken window.

Step one: Get rid of the old glass from the frame

To remove the old windowpane, you will first need to take out the screws that held it in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, lift the window slightly up so that it is no longer attached the sill plate (the steel bar at the floor). Use a plier to loosen any remaining screws. After the panes are taken off, thoroughly clean them.

Second step: Clean and polish the new glass

To remove dirt and grime from the glass' surface, use a paper towel or dry cloth. Use a spray bottle with water and alcohol to clean any debris that has gotten under the glass.

The third step is to reinstall the glass

Attach the window panes to the frames. Use a screwdriver to push the outermost edge of your pane down. Gently push back the pane into place in the opening. After moving to the next one, push it firmly against your previous one before you reattach it. Continue inserting the windows until they are all assembled. Use a silicone caulk gun to seal the space where the panes meet.

Fourth step: Repair the damaged area

Before installing the new glass, make sure to inspect the area around any cracks. Inspect the area around the window for cracks near the corners. If so, add two small pieces wood to each side. These wooden blocks will strengthen the window while acting as spacers for the glass during expansion and contraction of the weatherproofing.

Fifth step: Seal the repaired area

After the glass is replaced, apply silicone caulking to all edges of your window frame. This will create a strong seal between glass and surrounding wallboard. You can purchase silicone caulking at hardware stores or online. You should choose a color to match the wall paint.

Finally, let the caulking cure overnight. The caulking should be left to harden completely before you disturb it. If you don't wait long enough, you could cause the caulking to crack when you remove it.
